USA SUSPENDS TARIFFS ON WHISKY
I’ll drink to that!
Whisky exporters welcomed an announcement that the 25% tariff imposed on them by the USA in October 2019 was being lifted.
The whisky tariff was imposed by USA in dispute with UK about government subsidies given to Airbus and Boeing.
The Scotch Whisky Association estimates exports to USA had fallen by more than a third since the Trump administration imposed the tariff.
Initially the tariff will be suspended for 4 months but it is hoped a permanent lifting can be agreed between USA and UK.
